Third annual 'Dance Omaha' showcase takes stage January 30

OMAHA, NE — January 28, 2016 – A joy shared is a joy multiplied.  American Midwest Ballet puts these words into action on Saturday, January 30, as it shares the joy of dance by hosting more than a dozen area dance groups for Dance Omaha, a community dance showcase.

As American Midwest Ballet was being formed in 2010, the emerging company gathered dance organizations throughout the community for a multi-genre showcase. A few years later, the company revived the event into what has now become a much-anticipated annual collective dance concert, with American Midwest Ballet serving as host.
This season, Dance Omaha  features performances from UNO’s The Moving Company; Chrysalis Ensemble; Transcendtrix Performing Co. at The Rose; JCC Dance Training Company; Omaha Dance Center; Mexican Dance Academy of Nebraska; Heartland Youth Ballet; Guests from Texas A&M University Dance Department; Troupe Udjat; Pear Tree Performing Arts Dance Company; Modern Dance Theatre; Tbd. dance collective; American Midwest Ballet II; and the American Midwest Ballet/Motion41 Repertory Ensemble.
Matthew Carter’s Jump Back —  an original work first commissioned by Ballet Vero Beach for their 2015 Vero Beach Art Museum collaboration performance — will be performed by American Midwest Ballet dancers Katherine Boatright and Jake Godek for the first time in Omaha since its November premiere in Florida.
Jump Back is set to the music of the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra and features movement in the style of jazz dance legend, Luigi,” says Carter, ballet master at American Midwest Ballet. “The original performance was synchronized with displays of art from an exhibit by world renowned Lego sculptor, Nathan Sawaya.”
American Midwest Ballet’s Erin Alarcón and Carter will also perform the Black Swan pas de deux from the legendary ballet, Swan Lake.
