Groundbreaking for American Midwest Ballet’s new home slated for June 1

OMAHA — May 25, 2018 — Saying farewell to its former identity as Ballet Nebraska, the freshly rebranded American Midwest Ballet is taking important steps this summer.

Artistic director and CEO Erika Overturff announced a groundbreaking ceremony is planned for Friday, June 1 for the Hoff Family Arts and Culture Center in downtown Council Bluffs, the future home of American Midwest Ballet.

Slated to begin at 10 a.m. at the historic Harvester II building at 1001 South 6th Street in Council Bluffs, the groundbreaking will be hosted by Pottawattamie Arts, Culture and Entertainment [PACE], the organizer of the Hoff Center project.

The ballet company plans to move into the Hoff Center after its completion in 2019.

“We are excited to perform in its Polina and Bob Schlott Performing Arts Center, in addition to our favorite Omaha venues such as the Orpheum Theater and Joslyn Art Museum,” says Overtuff. “Having a permanent home will be a huge step forward for us.”

The groundbreaking ceremony is open to the public with parking available on 6th Street and South Main Street. A special viewing location will allow guests to safely glimpse the interior of the Harvester II building before renovation begins.

Following the ceremony, guests are invited next door to the Harvester Artists Lofts for refreshments and a showing of local artists’ works. The Metro Area Transit bus featuring several of American Midwest Ballet’s professional dancers will also be on display.
